Survival Courses

The Biviwacker Courses are bespoke and tailor made for individuals, small groups of up to 6 persons and corporate team building events.

Prior to any booking, one of the Biviwacker team will discuss the length and type of course that is required and as a result, a programme will be designed specifically tailored to meet all the needs and abilities of the individual or group’s requirements. Biviwacker will always be mindful that this is your course and your experience and as such, these are their aims and objectives:

• Each individual will take away with them not only new skills, but also a unique experience that will live long in the memory.

• An appreciation of the countryside and it’s wildlife, thereby creating an awareness of environmental issues.

• Explore and evoke personal feelings that have never been previously experienced.

• Develop skills in bush craft techniques and primitive survival skills that could one day save life.

• Enhance team building by creating the right environment for which camaraderie and unity become an essential feature.

Biviwacker team leaders are always mindful of the needs and limitations of students and as such, endeavour to create an approachable, warm and friendly atmosphere throughout the length of the course. • Cooking in the Wild.
• Making Primitive Weapons.

Building a Shelter

In order to protect man from the elements, shelter is necessary whether it be temporary or permanent. Our instructors will demonstrate how to construct different types of natural shelters from a basic ‘lean to’ to a much larger shelter able to house a group.

Fire Lighting

Fire was the first essential development of man’s power over the elements and shaped the future for us all. Without fuel or matches, different styles of fire lighting techniques such as bow drill and hand drill will be demonstrated by our instructors.

Tracking and Trapping

The ancient art of tracking will be fully illustrated by Biviwacker instructors. Our ancestors relied on these skills in order to survive and tracking was essential in order to stay safe from predators and procure food. Many methods of traps have been used over the centuries and our instructors will teach willing students how to make, lay and set traps.

Wilderness Walks and Cooking.

In addition to fire lighting techniques, demonstrations will take place of wilderness cooking. During the wildlife walk, various types of useful and edible plants will be identified. These will be cooked on a man made fire in order that they can be tasted, thereby savouring their unique flavours.

Making Primitive Weapons

In past history, man made primitive tools were developed for different uses. Defending, slaughtering and building were just a few of the uses for these weapons. Biviwacker instructors illustrate how various types of weapons are made using natural materials and then demonstrate how to make and use Long Bows, Atlatals, Spears and Sling Shots to name but a few.

Discovering Water and Purification Processes.

Water, essential to life itself must be found in the wilderness in order to survive for any length of time. Students will be taught how to discover water and then the technique of purification.

Natural Cordage.

Where would man be without the benefit of binding? Ancient man soon realised that in order to bind things together, a cord was necessary and over many thousands of years, rope was developed. Our instructors demonstrate the art of natural cordage, long forgotten in this modern world.

Other Skills.

The Biviwacker course can contain a combination or any one of the previous elements. There are also many other techniques that can be included in the specially designed course. Conversely, if a group or individual wishes to concentrate on any one subject, this too is possible.
