Bow Making Courses
(Bowyers)

Without a doubt, the most internationally recognised prehistoric artifacts are arrowheads. Clearly the bow and the arrow were the earliest form of hunting equipment for the Neolithic ‘hunter gatherer’. Their very survival depended on their hunting skills and the exploitation of wildlife in the woodlands of Britain was key to the development and proliferation of their species.

The bow was an important weapon, unique to the individual and its requirements were to effect a kill with precision and speed. The art of making a bow was therefore vitally important and as such, this knowledge was passed on from one generation to the next.

Biviwacker have developed excellent bow making courses that will illustrate this ancient craft. Using natural materials such as ash, walnut, maple and fruit woods (dependant on what is available for bow staves at the time of your visit) your bow can be fashioned in the truly authentic way. Tuition will be personal and delivered on a ‘one to one’ basis by our instructors who will lead you through the development and creation of this most ancient and historic weapon. You will be taught how to fell, cleft, craft, laminate, finish and string your own bow and you will have the personal satisfaction of knowing that this unique weapon that you will be able to keep for ever, was fashioned by your own hands. In addition, you will be taught how to shoot authentically created arrows with your bow and thereby gain an added experience to savour and remember.

Although Biviwacker trainers deliver this course in a controlled environment, the atmosphere will be informal, relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable.

Biviwacker offers two courses, one is an advanced bowyer's workshop based in Warwickshire the other is a beginners course set in Biviwackers’ own privately owned woodland in West Wales.

Prices start from £199 per person (full weekend course) please call for availability.
